ItineraryDay 1 – Arrive Manchester Airport – EnglandDepart for Wales, now home to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, (HRH Prince William and Catherine) and the place for the finest castles in Britain. On your drive down the Welsh border country you will visit Powis Castle with some of the worldʼs finest gardens.
You will spend two nights at the: Metropole Hotel and Spa, Llandrindod Wells In the heart of Wales the Metropole provides superb comfort, excellent cuisine and well appointed leisure facilities. Day 2Depart hotel for a full day in Cardiff, Walesʼ capital city. You will drive down the scenic Wye Valley with a stop at Tintern to view the impressive ruins of the 12th century Abbey immortalised by the poet Wordsworth. Cardiff has one of the finest collections of French Impressionist paintings in the world in its National Museum and an outstanding Museum of Welsh Life. It is also home to Welsh Rugby football with many lively pubs and bars close to the famous Millenium Stadium.
Metropole Hotel and Spa, Llandrindod Wells Day 3Depart hotel for North Wales, the centre of "Iaith Cymraeg", Walesʼ unique language still the "first language" to most people in this part of Wales. You will be travelling North through the beautiful Cardigan Bay on Walesʼ West coast, stopping at Harlech castle with its outstanding views of the mountains of North Wales ahead! You will have a taste of the spectacular scenery of Snowdonia – some of the worldʼs finest mountains, lakes and of course the place to see many of Walesʼ finest castles. End the day in the Victorian splendour of Llandudno: Empire Hotel and Spa, where you will be based for 3 nights in comfort with fine dining and excellent leisure facilities. Llandudno boasts a spectacular bay, excellent shops and restaurants and features the Great Orme with the tramway to its summit modeled on the engineering of the San Francisco trolley system. Day 4A visit to the mountain resort of Betws y Coed and some of the best gardens in Britain at Bodnant in the Conwy Valley. At the medieval walled town of Conwy you will see the 13th
century castle and the smallest house in Britain on the fishing quay. Drive on to the Isle of Anglesey, again with superb views of the mountains and visit the sailing resort of Beaumaris. Free time to wander through the historic town with its many craft, antique shops and fine medieval castle. Day 5A visit to Llanberis with its outstanding National Slate Museum. Slate lies at the heart of much of the economic life of North Wales. Possible trip on the Ffestiniog Railway to the lovely harbour town of Porthmadoc followed by a visit to the unique Portmeirion village designed by the eccentric Welsh architect Clough Williams Ellis – an entire Italianate village complete with taverns, shops,and squares transferred to the coast of Wales. Some of the finest dining in Wales for either lunch or an early dinner!
Day 6Depart hotel and Llandudno driving along the North coast of Wales with outstanding views. A visit to Ruthin with its castle, old gaol, craft shops and fine dining. Alternatively a visit to Llangollen, home to the world-famous International Eisteddfod, a cultural extravaganza unique to Wales.
On to Manchester Airport and return flight to the USA.
