Itinerary

Day 1: Palermo

Welcome to Sicily! Upon arrival at Palermo airport (PMO) proceed through Passport Control and collect your luggage inside the customs area. Private transfer to your hotel. Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant. (D)

Day 2: Monreale – Palermo & Cefalù

Today, we visit the famous Cathedral of Monreale, one of the greatest examples of Norman architecture in the world. Next, we explore the Palermo Capo open-air market, Fountain of Pretoria Maqueda Quarter. This afternoon, we depart for the undiscovered jewel of Cefalù. Return to Palermo. (BB)

Day 3: Marsala Wine – Olive Oil – Erice

Today, we visit Marsala winery and taste Sicilian wines. We travel and admire the hills of salt on the Salt Way Road, where the ancient tradition of harvesting salt from the sea is still practiced. Enjoy a light farmhouse lunch at an olive oil factory. Continue to Erice, famous for marzipan. Return to Palermo. (BB L)

Day 4: Agrigento & Piazza Armerina

Today, we drive to Agrigento to visit the Greek Doric Temples. Afterward, we continue to Piazza Armerina, where we will view the ruins of the Roman Villa of Casale (Admission fee is not included). We continue to Taormina, the resort town of Sicily. Tonight dinner in a local trattoria. (BB D)

Day 5: Taormina/Syracuse/Taormina

Today, we depart for Syracuse, founded by colonists from Corinth in 735 B.C. and once the most important competitor to Athens. On arrival stroll through the streets of Ortygia Island, the heart of the city center. Light lunch at a local restaurant. This afternoon, we visit the Archaeological Park (Admission fee not included) which highlights the Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Paradise Quarry. We then return to Taormina. (BB L)

Day 6: Taormina Mt Etna

Etna Jeep Ride with Light Lunch (light lunch wine included) (8:30AM – 4:30PM). Today,you will be picked up at your hotel by an off-road driver and transferred to Mt. Etna. Experience Mount Fontana (view of Bove Valley), the Thieves Cave, extinct craters of Sartorius Mounts, and lava flow from the 2002 eruption. Enjoy a light lunch at a winery & farmhouse, tasting typical Sicilian dishes and wine. In the afternoon, return to Taormina hotel. (BB L)

Day 7: Taormina/Catania

Time to say goodbye to Sicily. Private transfer to Catania airport (CTA).

Let us know if you would like to extend your stay in this beautiful resort town. If so, perhaps you would like to partake of a Taormina Gourmet cooking class (9:30am – 1:30pm). Take a brief walk to an open air market, where we will purchase fresh fruit, vegetables, and the ingredients for our cooking course. We return to the restaurant to begin cooking. At the end of our lesson, we enjoy our scrumptious creations with a beautifully paired Sicilian wine. Dessert follows accompanied by a local dessert wine. (BB L)
